Reminders
MémoPatte schedules your reminders on the phone itself, so they arrive even without an internet connection. Android is what shows them, and several phone settings can block or delay them. If a reminder doesn’t arrive, or arrives late, check these points in order.
The paths below are for Android 14 to 16 on a Google Pixel phone. On other brands (Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo…), menus and their names can differ: use the search in the Settings app instead.
1. Allow MémoPatte’s notifications
Without this permission, Android shows no reminders at all. MémoPatte asks for it once your health record has a first upcoming reminder. If it was denied:
- Open your phone’s Settings app.
- Tap Notifications › App notifications.
- Tap MémoPatte. If it isn’t listed, choose “All apps” in the dropdown menu.
- Turn on “All MémoPatte notifications”.
- Check that the “Reminders” category is on: that’s the one your reminders use.
In MémoPatte, Settings › Reminders shows whether notifications are allowed, with a link to this setting when they’re off.
2. Battery saving and sleep
To save battery, Android limits apps while you’re not using them. When MémoPatte is limited too much, your reminders can arrive late, or not at all.
- Open your phone’s Settings app.
- Tap Apps › See all apps › MémoPatte.
- Tap App battery usage.
- Turn on “Allow background usage”, then tap that label to choose between “Optimized” and “Unrestricted”. On some Android versions, “Unrestricted”, “Optimized” and “Restricted” are shown right away.
- Restricted (background usage off): Android stops MémoPatte from doing anything while you’re not using it. Your reminders may not arrive at all. Best avoided.
- Optimized (the default): Android adapts what MémoPatte can do to how you use it. Your reminders arrive, sometimes late.
- Unrestricted: Android no longer delays your reminders to save battery. Android notes that this choice may use more battery. Choose it if your reminders often arrive late.
Battery Saver (Settings › Battery › Battery Saver) can also delay your reminders while it’s on.
Finally, if MémoPatte isn’t used for several months, Android can pause it: it removes the app’s permissions, including notifications. Opening MémoPatte or tapping one of its reminders is enough to prevent this. To turn it off: Settings › Apps › See all apps › MémoPatte, then turn off “Pause app activity if unused”.
3. Exact reminders
Without exact reminders, Android can delay your reminders to save battery: a reminder never arrives before its time, usually within the following hour, and sometimes later when the phone is saving battery. With exact reminders, Android shows each reminder right on time. They also let you choose a reminder 15 or 30 minutes before a treatment’s time.
Exact reminders are optional: without them, your reminders still arrive, sometimes late. They’re useful for a treatment given at a set time.
To turn them on from MémoPatte:
- Open Settings › Reminders and turn on “Exact reminders”.
- Tap “Open settings”: Android opens the “Alarms & reminders” screen.
- Turn on “Allow setting alarms and reminders”, then go back to MémoPatte.
Or from your phone’s settings: Settings › Apps › Special app access › Alarms & reminders › MémoPatte, then turn on “Allow setting alarms and reminders”.
If you remove this permission, Android closes MémoPatte and deletes its scheduled reminders. Open the app once: it schedules them again right away. MémoPatte then tells you your reminders may arrive late, and keeps your choices: they’re exact again as soon as the permission is back. On a new phone, Android doesn’t carry this permission over, even when it transfers MémoPatte: you need to give it again.
4. What MémoPatte can’t do on its own
- Phone switched off: no reminder can arrive on a phone that’s off. When it restarts, MémoPatte schedules your reminders again, and the ones due in the meantime show up. If the phone stayed off for a long time, open MémoPatte once: it recalculates all your reminders.
- Not opening the app for a long time: MémoPatte schedules your reminders ahead of time, but not forever. The last scheduled reminder asks you to open MémoPatte: opening it is enough to schedule the next ones.
- Force stop: if you tap “Force stop” in the app info, Android can cancel all its reminders. Open MémoPatte once to schedule them again.
- Uninstalling: uninstalling MémoPatte erases its reminders. If you reinstall it and get your health record back (Android backup, importing an export, or, soon, MémoPatte Plus), allow its notifications again, and exact reminders if you used them.
